Dot NAME Domain Names

Set up in 2001, the .NAME extension is the only one meant for personal websites only. These domain names can consist of personal or fictitious names, nicknames and/or other titles people are famous by. At the beginning, just 3rd-level registrations were allowed, so if you desired to purchase john.doe.name, you were required to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration process was liberalized and 2nd-level registrations were also allowed. Already taken third-level domain names remained working.
